Steve Ballmer has finally announced that he will retire within the coming year. He has been praised and criticized for his leadership and contributions throughout his 33 years with the company. Much has been written about his accomplishments and also missed opportunities during his tenure. Steve is not a typical CEO. He joined Microsoft® on 6/11/80 and has been second only to Bill Gates in seniority since 1993. Steve is passionate about all things Microsoft® and has always been an emotional cheerleader for the company. He leads by example and has a tireless work ethic. Whether his retirement is good for the company may depend largely upon his successor, but regardless of whether people continue to support Steve as CEO or not, it’s hard to dispute that he will be hard to replace. We wish him all the best.
