What should your web browser be?  Statistically, you’re most likely to say ?? wording that’s easy. It’s Google or if you’re iOs Safari.??? Wording???  But, is your brand loyalty earned?  We would like to offer you some suggestions on some exciting changes with Microsoft’s Edge:

Brand loyalty is a big thing for most of us; Coke or Pepsi?  Nike or Reebok, DC or Marvel?  And what about your web browser?  Are you a fan of Google, which, unless you use a Mac, as not many of us do… which is mostly used? … what about giving Microsoft’s Edge a go?  Previously its different coding meant it didn’t use extensions from Google or being updated quite as efficiently??, the only reason most people would use it as if they were a fan of U2 or were serious Microsoft loyalists.  But recently, Microsoft has given the Edge a significant overhaul, one that incorporates improvements to Windows 10 Its self???. Is it time to get close to the Edge?

What’s new in the New Edge Browser?

The new Microsoft Edge is an outgrowth of the Chromium open-source project. Chromium is the basis of Google Chrome, so New Edge is very close to Chrome, so why not just stick to Google Chrome… especially when Edge supports Chrome browser extensions, and has the same rendering engine as Google Chrome???

Well, for a start, a website that used to work with just Google Chrome, now works with Edge.

Another advantage,  unlike the old Edge, the New Edge is being updated every six weeks, and not every six months like for Windows 10.

When New Edge is Available?

Microsoft released the stable version of its new Edge browser on Jan. 15, 2020. On June 3, 2020, Microsoft began rolling it out to all Windows 10 users via Windows Update.

In case you cannot wait, you can download the new Edge from Microsoft’s website, or you then? You/ or wait for  Windows Update to install it. The original version of Edge is now officially called the “Legacy” version of Edge, which sounds a lot like a ledge.

Don’t worry, legacy Edge is still installed for compatibility reasons, but Windows keeps it hidden. Please note! you can tell you’re using the new Edge because it has a new logo; It’s a blue-and-green swirl rather than merely a blue “e,” as the old Edge was.

You may already have the New Edge if you have a new computer as Microsoft installed it on your computer with  Windows 10’s May 2020 Update, November 2019 Update, or May 2019 Update.

Is it possible for Microsoft to install it?

Yes, but it’s a bad idea.  It works better than the old one, and if you want to stick with Bing or Google, you can ignore it; it is your computer, after all, and it’s free.

Microsoft understands some businesses want to block their PCs from installing the new Edge. Microsoft Edge comes with a Chromium Edge update blocker toolkit which will set a “DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium” registry value, which will stop Windows 10 automatically downloading edge, blunting the new Edge so to speak.

Why Did Microsoft change from  EdgeHTML for Chromium?

Microsoft announced it would replace Edge’s EdgeHTML rendering engine with the Chromium rendering way back in December 2018. Back in the day, this caused quite a shock, like a mega music star ditching their recording label. Microsoft had previously done its own thing and was now following the pack. But , let’s remember Microsoft got there first, EdgeHTML is based on the Microsoft Trident rendering engine used by Internet Explorer, so they’ve been leading the way already.

Joe Belfiore, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Windows, said at the time that the reasoning was “to create better web compatibility for our customers and less fragmentation of the web for all web developers.”

Even if you use Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge will improve ut??.  Sometimes it’s about everybody helping out, don’t make a bigger slice of the pie, make the pie  itself bigger.

New Edge vs. Chrome: How are they different, and which one’s better?

Edge and Chrome may now be similarly excellent looking and accessible browsers but we should get below the surface. Edge had got rid of Google’s services and, in many cases, replaced them with Microsoft ones. Edge syncs your data to Microsoft, not Google.

Edge also has the advantage of tracking prevention with a tracking blocker built-in and a potentially unwanted program (PUP) blocker. New Edge’s interface kept legacy Edge’s favourites button to the right of the address bar on Edge’s browser toolbar, it also still keeps snippers of web pages.

Don’t just keep Edge because you’re Microsoft fan or loyalist, the Pup blocker and tracking blocker are useful features to have built-in.

Also, if you’re using Windows 10, then out of the box, you’ve got a modern, useful web browser built into it.

Does Edge work with other Operating Systems?

Microsoft’s new Chromium-based Edge browser is available for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, macOS, iPhone, iPad, and Android.   This is pretty much everything you might be thinking of except Linux, and Microsoft will even release a version of it for Linux in the future. Chrome already supports all these platforms, so that makes porting the new Edge much simpler for Microsoft.  The great thing about sharing architecture is how easy it makes it to go where Chrome already goes.

Is this an end to the Browser Wars?

Not yet! Windows 10 setting still recommends Microsoft Edge over Firefox and Google Chrome

There is a cooperation, but it’s a cold peace as Google wants you on Chrome and Microsoft wants you to keep the Edge.

hen you install a Chrome extension, Microsoft automatically warns you that extensions from the Chrome Web Store “are unverified and may affect browser performance. If you agree to that, then Chrome warns you that it “recommends switching to Chrome to use extensions securely

Even though Chrome and Edge use the same underlying software, Chrome will inform that you should “try a fast, secure browser with updates built-in.” when you access sites based on Chrome.

Microsoft is recommending Chrome users switch to Edge, too. For example, Bing encourages Chrome users to download Edge. Windows 10’s Settings app says the new Edge is “recommended for Windows 10” when you’re choosing your default web browser, too.

Bottom line, even though Chrome and Edge may be the same under the skin, surface appearances count and Edge and Chrome want you to show some brand loyalty.  Our suggestions go with the one you’re most comfortable with.  But the New Edge under the skin is so similar to Chrome, you may be familiar with Chrome or Firefox, and if you want to drill down, then some extensions may work better on each of them.  You should remember, though, that the New Edge has some serious useful Pup blocking functions (even if you’re a dog lover), and not worrying about tracking is another plus.  But, you’ll have to get used to Chrome continually making you feel guilty whenever you use their extensions.
